Lucille Anne Conlan
Birth: 30 Nov 1905, San Francisco, CA
Death: 30 Sep 1937, San Francisco, CA
Like her sister Claire, Lucille lived a short life. She was born on November 30, 1905, just five months before the Earthquake. She grew up in St. Joseph’s Parish. Since she died before the 1940 Census, it is unknown how much schooling she had, but it is likely she had at least a two-year high school experience like her sisters.
By 1925, Lucille was working as a telephone operator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph (PT&T). She would work there for the next 12 years. In 1937, Lucille contracted tuberculosis. She died at Mary’s Help Hospital on September 30, 1937. She was not quite 32 years old. After a requiem mass at Mission Dolores Basilica, she was laid to rest in Section V of Holy Cross Cemetery. She would be joined there by her brother Joseph four years later.
As an odd footnote, her obituary listed Consuela Cabezud (the orphan girl that Annie had taken in ten or so years before) as Lucille’s sister Consuela Conlan, though she was never actually adopted nor had she changed her name.
